Business Challenge
Mobile workers, real estate agents, and students frequently receive urgent agreements, legal releases, or receipts requiring immediate signature and return while on the move. Current mobile PDF solutions suffer from cluttered desktop-transplanted toolbars, clumsy manual cropping, and severe privacy issues where private files are uploaded to third-party clouds. The objective was to design a clean, local-first scanner and signing engine that handles end-to-end document turnaround in seconds.
Research & User Pain Points
Interviews with 12 enterprise freelancers, attorneys, and field agents revealed:
- → Users wasted time manually dragging corner handles because auto-crop boundaries failed in dim lighting
- → Inserting a digital signature took up to 6 steps across confusing nested menus in competitor apps
- → Privacy-conscious clients refused to use apps that required cloud account signups to edit documents
- → Re-ordering or combining multi-page scans resulted in bloated, non-email-friendly PDF file sizes
User Flow
Design Decisions
Zero-tap neural edge detection
Implemented an intelligent camera HUD that detects page boundaries in real time, locks perspective, and auto-captures when stable, removing manual cropping friction.
Floating quick-signature drawer
Created a persistent bottom sheet holding verified user signatures and initial stamps that can be dropped directly onto documents and scaled with two fingers.
100% on-device sandboxed privacy
Guaranteed zero cloud leakage with clear UI security badges reassuring users that OCR and PDF compilation execute strictly on their local device hardware.
Visual page sorter & smart compression
Designed a drag-and-drop thumbnail grid for instant page reorganization, paired with a smart PDF compression engine that maintains crisp text under 2MB.

Document turnaround time reduced from 3.2 minutes to under 45 seconds
